Pro-Bono and Community

Jeff knows that the energy transition must also address environmental justice. His pro-bono and community-focused legal work reflects this commitment—supporting efforts that expand access to clean energy, advance climate justice, and strengthen public-purpose infrastructure.

He provides pro-bono legal services to the Legal Response Initiative (LRI), which supports climate-vulnerable developing countries in UN climate negotiations. His engagement with LRI reflects a long-standing commitment to helping underrepresented countries participate meaningfully in global climate governance.

During his time working in Mozambique, Jeff contributed to revising the nation’s energy law—enacted in 2022—to attract private investment in the electricity sector. He also spearheaded a pilot project that developed a replicable model for financing solar water pumps, ensuring rural communities had reliable access to clean drinking water.

He is also the founder of Millennium Microgrid, a social enterprise established to bring affordable, sustainable energy services to rural off-grid communities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The company aimed to demonstrate that distributed renewable energy could be deployed using private capital in Sub-Saharan Africa. Although Millennium Microgrid formally suspended operations in December 2020, the experience continues to inform Jeff’s understanding of implementation risk, community engagement, and the challenges associated with delivering clean energy solutions in underserved regions.

We are currently seeking additional pro-bono and low-cost opportunities that align with our legal experience and values. Areas of interest include:

  • Public land trusts that create or preserve wildlife migration corridors

  • Organizations defending civil liberties and migrant worker rights

  • Indigenous communities asserting treaty-protected legal rights, preserving cultural resources, or protecting lands of environmental and spiritual importance

  • Energy Access in Least Developed Countries

If you are working on a project with significant community benefit and are looking for legal support, we welcome inquiries.
